Nothing’s getting boiled in a bag or cooked in a microwave here. Never has and never will. We source all of our produce within 20 miles so you get a true taste of the best Cumbria has to offer and our resident chef builds each dish from the ground up; we make our own sources from scratch and cook each dish to order. We know it’s a lot more work but it shines through in the quality of our meals.

We have one simple mantra here at the Shakespeare; our food always tastes great and is satisfying. We have a mix of tasty traditional dishes and new twists on old favourites to suit all tastes and budgets. We do the pub classics really well, from fish and chips like you remember from being a child, you know where the fish is as big as your arm covered in crispy and light batter, through to good honest hand made beef burgers made with aged Cumbrian beef and finished with a range of toppings. No one does food like us in Kendal.

We also have a range dishes which are a little bit different but play to the strengths of the local producers around us and our chef’s ability. Our Beef and Marrow pie’s 12 hour cooked filling melts in your mouth and is just what you’re after after a day out walking the hills or shopping. Our Chicken Schnitzel is hand made to order and only uses fresh chicken breast and is served by actual triple cooked chips. We could go on and on but we’d love it if you can to try it for yourself.
